Graphic Design in the Middle 
A Design History Project

Graphic Design in the Middle is a project that explores the origins, inspirations, visions and history of graphic design in Kansas and the Kansas City area. The central focus of this project is discovering and documenting when and how graphic design established itself as a profession in Kansas and Kansas City and who were the people that pioneered it. I am continuing work designing a series of films on area designers and a website that facilitates users to find and share their own design histories.



A Design History event and exhibition of the films occurred November 2012, sponsored by AIGA and held at the AIA offices and event space in downtown KC. Attendees viewed the films, listened to a Q + A with the some of the designers featured in the films, saw an exhibition of Kansas City design icons and had the opportunity to share their own design histories.
