Unboxing: Packaging Design for Secure Attachments/Wonderfair
Project Overview:
In collaboration with Wonderfair, KU Graphic Design students will create imaginative and tactile packaging concepts for a curated set of Wonderfair products. Each student will select 2–3 items from a provided product list (10–15 total items curated by Wonderfair) and explore various packaging solutions. Emphasis will be placed on play, narrative, sustainability, and form. Students will ultimately prototype one fully developed design for review and potential display at Wonderfair or the Secure Attachments exhibition.
Deliverables:
-
Initial Concepts & Moodboards
-
Three Paper Prototypes exploring varied packaging directions
-
Final Packaging Design – Full-scale, finished prototype
- Poster Presentation – Including photography, storytelling, and design process
Design Considerations:
-
Incorporate narratives or concepts related to the product’s origin, use, or surprise factor
-
Embrace materials experimentation and sustainable thinking
-
Consider how packaging communicates and functions—beyond protection or display
-
Encourage the viewer to pause, interact, and discover
